Chiko
This is the pony that started it all. After he died I wrote some really bad poetry and then one year later I began writing his story, scribbled in note books in-between teaching horse riding lessons. They say write about what you know but I also believe you have to write from who you are. At the time I wrote the horse stories we had up to ten horses and ponies on our property and our lives were centered around all things equine. I owe this little pony a great debt. He was the catalyst that led me to ‘have a go’ and write my first book. I don’t set out to write about horses anymore but they seem to creep into my character’s lives. The novel I am currently writing set in Ireland features the magical white wave horses of the Sidhe or fairy people.
