Talks & workshops

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I am available for workshops and author talks through the Literature Centre.

My workshops and author talks focus mainly on how to turn fact into fiction and encouraging reading, writing, art and storytelling for all ages. I work with large stuffed animals, dress-ups, hand puppets and power point pictures plus a variety of materials from the making of my books. The aim is to create a fun environment in which to learn about writing, illustrating and stories with the emphasis on a willingness to have a go.

Photographs from Piawadjirri and Yalgoo schools

After a morning of story telling and hearing about my work the students at Pia Wadjirri and Yalgoo used chystaline tissue paper, coloured paper and wax crayons to make a four panel mural for their school.

Many of the students came into the classroom at lunchtime to help with finishing the work.

Homeschooling groups are a delight.

This little group I met in Townsville when I visited schools to talk about Amelia Ellicott’s Garden becoming a play.

Enquiries about school group talks

A normal day would consist of three one hour talks or  a mixture of talks and workshops. I require a screen, tables for display and two display boards for pictures. Setting up takes a while so it is easiest if I am based in the same room all day.

If you would like to enquire about my availability for school talks, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
